Tips & Tricks
Powerful ally he is. Mmm... powerful ally...

Here is where you can plumb the vast depths of my Geekness.

I'm a firm believer in the sharing of knowledge and being a helping hand to fellow Geeks. All too often in my profession I run up against attitudes like "RTFM" ("Read The Frelling Manual") - people who seem to think that, since they figured it out on their own, nobody else should get any help either. I think that's stupid. Where would we be if every person who wanted to design a car had to re-invent the internal combustion engine from scratch?

Anyway, this section of my site is dedicated to all things technical in my life. Here you can (or will eventually be able to) find the details of my home network, get tips on programming or configuring your computer, learn about interesting technologies and techniques or take a look at my work history.

Valuable Resources

  • CodeGuru - A community of programmers and developers. You can find sample code, read papers on various technologies and ask/answer questions in the many online forums. I try to contribute as much as I can in the Visual Basic and Client Side Scripting forums, where I am known as ShawnDev.

  • AllAPI.net - The All API Network is a wonderful resource for anyone making Windows API calls from Visual Basic. They have many samples, examples and downloadable tools, objects and utilities. I have found their API Guide program (a database of APIs and precisely how to use them in VB) to be indespensible over the years. Unfortunately, they are no longer updating the web site and it is unknown how long it will continue to stay up (or their tools will be available).
